The Educator

By Rejoy Krishnan•Photographer & Mentor

“From a viral video at Race Course Coimbatore to an inspiring 139K+ community.”

One day, while travelling for a shoot, Rejoy passed through Race Course in Coimbatore, a place where people gather, relax, and often capture moments with their cameras.

He noticed a photographer holding a camera for a vertical frame. It immediately reminded him of something he had learnt at Light & Life Academy in Ooty—sometimes, the way you hold a camera can make a difference to the image you create.

That simple thought became his first Instagram teaching video: “How to Hold a Camera.” The video went viral. And Rejoy realised something: people didn't want to remain just audiences of photography. They wanted to learn, experiment, and become part of the art.

Knowing that not everyone gets the opportunity he had at Light & Life Academy, he began sharing what he had learnt—through teaching videos, photography critiques, Photo Talks, and mentoring.

His approach was never just about pointing out mistakes. He wanted people to understand why something wasn't working and how they could make it better.

“His focus became the deeper questions of photography: • How do we see? • How do we approach photography? • How do we develop our own visual language?”

That journey has grown into a community of more than 139K followers on Instagram, and continues to grow through ongoing educational masterclasses and mentorship.

Rejoy believes photography is about understanding the rules, mastering the craft, and eventually having the confidence to break them—to experiment, explore, and truly enjoy the art.

“The student became a photographer. The photographer became a teacher. And the teacher began building a community of storytellers.”
