The Photographer

By Rejoy Krishnan•Photographer & Mentor

“Light & Life Academy, the secrets of the Nilgiris, and learning how deeply to see.”

Have you ever visited Ooty? People call it a paradise. But perhaps you haven't really seen Ooty until you've seen it the way Rejoy Krishnan did.

When Rejoy decided to move into photography, there was one place he wanted to learn it from—Light & Life Academy, Ooty. He spent a full year there, immersing himself in the nuances of photography and completing his Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Photography. But Ooty gave him something beyond a qualification.

“During that year, travelling in and around the Nilgiris, Rejoy slowly discovered a quietly kept secret: The real beauty of Ooty doesn't lie in the town. It lives in its villages.”

The more he travelled, the more he began to connect with nature, people, landscapes, and the stories hidden in ordinary places. That connection changed the way he looked through a camera.

He began to understand that a photograph doesn't always need to show something extraordinary. Sometimes, the most meaningful stories are hidden in the simplest places, the quietest moments, and the people who live them.

From there, his photographic journey began to evolve. He explored concept-driven photography, location portraits, corporate portraits, fashion, architecture, hospitality, industrial, food, and product photography—always looking for the story behind the frame.

Among these, working with people became a particular passion. A landscape can be beautiful. A building can be magnificent. But a person carries emotion, character, experience, attitude, and a story.

That is what draws him towards corporate portraiture, location portraits, and fashion photography—the opportunity to discover what makes a person unique and translate that into an image.

Today, his work includes creating portraits for professionals, entrepreneurs, business leaders, artists, and organisations, while his concept-driven work continues to explore people and their relationship with places, culture, and nature.

His photography has also taken him into the world of Fortune, one of the world's most recognised business media brands, known for its influential journalism, business storytelling, rankings, and global community of business leaders.

“Photography is not about what you see. It is about how deeply you learn to see. And that became the foundation of the photographer he is today.”
